Run Club Domestique presents

ToastiquetoDomestique

A fall marathon from a Reston toast bar to a Washington wine shop. Everyone gathers at Toastique to start; run the full 26.2, or ride the Silver Line out to a shorter start and run it in. Nothing is timed, and everyone finishes at Domestique.

The Course

One line across the river.

Out of Reston Town Center on the W&OD Trail, a handoff to the Custis at Bon Air, over the Key Bridge into Georgetown, a lap past the monuments, and in to the wine in Bloomingdale. Flat rail-trail for the better part of it, with one honest climb on the Custis.

Mapped in bicycle directions, naturally. Toast marks an aid station.

Pick Your Distance

Run the whole thing, or just the good part.

It's untimed, so take on as much as you like. Everyone meets at Toastique in Reston, then rides the Silver Line out to a personal start and runs it in. Every option still ends at Domestique, with a glass waiting.

Day Of

What to know before you go.

Getting There

Both ends sit on Metro. Silver Line to Reston Town Center for the start, Red Line home from NoMa at the finish. Leave the car. The Silver Line runs straight from Reston out to East Falls Church, Ballston, and Rosslyn with no transfer, so riding to a personal start is a single train.

Aid & Fuel

Coffee and toast at the start, with aid along the W&OD at the town crossings. On the map, the toast marks an aid station.

The Spoils

Prizes for the first man and first woman to Domestique. In the cyclist's tradition, the Lanterne Rouge, last across the line, takes one too.

When

A fall Saturday, set off at 7:30 AM: full daylight, peak foliage on the W&OD, and a finish right as the wine shop opens.

Why Domestique

The teammate who does the work up front.

A domestique is the cyclist who rides at the front so the rest of the team can finish. A good name for a finish line at the end of twenty-some miles of bike trail, and for the club that puts it on.

Run Club Domestique is an informal crew with a fondness for long lines across the map and a drink at the end of them. This one runs from Reston Town Center to Domestique.
